What the DOT Physical Includes
Vision Testing
Checks visual acuity and field of vision to ensure the driver meets FMCSA minimum standards (20/40 in each eye with or without correction).
Hearing Test
Evaluates hearing ability to ensure the driver can perceive a forced whispered voice at 5 feet or greater, or pass an audiometric test.
Blood Pressure & Pulse
Measures blood pressure and pulse rate. Elevated blood pressure may affect certification period length or require follow-up.
Urinalysis
Urine specimen tested for glucose, protein, blood, and specific gravity to screen for underlying medical conditions that may affect driving safety.
Physical Examination
Head-to-toe physical assessment including cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, and musculoskeletal systems to identify conditions that may impair safe driving.
Medical History Review
Review of the driver's medical history form (MCSA-5875) to identify conditions, medications, or prior diagnoses that require evaluation or specialist clearance.
FMCSA National Registry Certified
Our medical examiner is listed on the FMCSA National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. Upon passing the exam, drivers receive a Medical Examiner's Certificate (Form MCSA-5876) valid for up to 24 months, along with a copy of the completed examination report.
